Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died in a car accident in Spain, along with his younger brother, André Silva. Spanish authorities confirmed the tragic news on Thursday.

The crash happened shortly after midnight near the city of Zamora in northwestern Spain. According to the Spanish Civil Guard, the Lamborghini the two men were traveling in veered off the road and caught fire. Both Jota, 28, and Silva, 25, died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved, and police are investigating the cause of the accident. Forensic analysis of the bodies is underway.

Jota's death comes just weeks after he married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, during a break from football. She had shared a photo from their wedding on social media with the caption, “Yes to forever.” He is survived by Cardoso and their three children, the youngest born last year.

Jota played a key role in Liverpool’s recent Premier League title win and was widely admired for his dedication and skill on the pitch.
